JAMES GROVER MCDONALD (1886 - 1964)
The first U.S. ambassador to Israel, but he was much more than that. He kept a diary to record his meetings with some of the history-making personalities of the 1930s, and his activities on behalf of the Jews in the 1930s when no one would listen.
